A Syrian refugee moves to Colombia for love

Cue: This story takes place in Colombia, in South America, but it began in Damascus. It’s been nearly seven years since the civil war began in Syria. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 4.8 million Syrians have fled the country.
Most seek asylum in nearby countries such as Lebanon and Turkey, at refugee camps with thousands of fellow-Syrians. But across the world, a Syrian refugee-turned-chef is serving traditional Syrian food in Colombia’s capital city, Bogotá. Cady Voge has the story --

Imad Alarnab cooks his way from Demascus to London
15 March 2017 - Cue: The UK has resettled 4,500 Syrian refugees. Their journey here is often harrowing, but what is it like once they arrive and begin trying to piece together a normal life again?
Imad Alarnab is now a car salesman in London, but he once owned two restaurants and several juice bars in Damascus. This week and next week he is hosting a pop-up Syrian restaurant on Columbia Road, east London, as he works toward building a life that he loves in the UK - and what he loves, is cooking. Cady Voge reports--

Sadiq Khan says: London is open, and he’s using the arts to show it.
26 February 2017 - Cue: The Iranian film “The Salesman” took home the 2017 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Just hours before the awards ceremony began in Los Angeles, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan sponsored a free open-air screening of the film in the city’s centre. Director of the film, and previous Oscar-winner, Asghar Farhadi, boycotted the ceremony in protest of the US travel ban imposed by US President Donald Trump. Mayor Khan screened the film in solidarity with Farhadi’s protest. Cady Voge reports--
John Kerry calls the US elections "downright embarrassing"
31 Oct 2016 - Cue: During John Kerry’s last visit to London as the United States Secretary of State, he joined Mayor of London Sadiq Khan for a town hall style discussion on Monday. Though he made it clear that he is not able to take a partisan stance, as you can imagine, the upcoming presidential elections were a hot topic of discussion. Muslim Londoners give out 3000 roses a week after the London Bridge attacks
11 June 2017 - Cue: One week after the terror attack at London Bridge which killed 8 people and injured dozens more, a small group of friends stood at the site of the tragedy and handed out free red roses to passers-by. Moved to spread love and unity and not hate, the organisers were mostly British Muslims, and some interfaith supporters. Cady Voge reports--
